Short Bio
Eric Molin is an associate professor of Travel Behavior Research at the Transport Policy Group of the Engineering Systems and Services department of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, TU Delft. I am trained as a sociologist with a specialization in social research methods and techniques, and conducted my doctoral thesis in developing stated preference group experiment. My research is mainly focused on travel behavior and always related to developing large scale survey questionnaires and applying multivariate data analysis techniques. In particular, I contributed to the development of advanced stated choice experiments, which among others this involved group experiments, context dependent experiment, and hierarchical information integration experiments. My research always takes place at crossing between applying cutting edge behavioral research methods and generating policy relevant insights for emergent policy topics. Content wise my research focused on measuring acceptance and behavioral implications of multi-modal transport systems, transport technology, and innovative mobility systems mainly driven to contribute to sustainability. Applications have been on multi-modal choices, travel information services, electric and hydrogen cars, automated cars, and shared cars. Furthermore, I have worked on personal network analysis and measuring and modeling perceptions and attitudes. In my research I have applied a wide range of multivariate modeling techniques ldiscrete choice models. I have published widely in well-respected transportation journals and 93 of my publications are listed in Scopus with a H-index of 24. Furthermore, I teach about these research methods and analysis techniques on Bachelor, Master and PhD. level. I always receive high student evaluations for my courses and have received two teacher awards for special topics. I have been involved in the supervision 13 PhD. candidates of which 2 graduated cum laude. Furthermore, I was a founding father of the Stated Response Surveys Subcommittee of Transportation Research Board in Washington DC and was its chair for more than 10 years. I have been involved as a project and program leader of various grants awarded by N.W.O., the Dutch organization for scientific research, among other, of Personal Intelligent Travel Assistant, Synchronization Networks, U-smile, and On the move. Finally, I am part of the editorial advisory board on the Journal of Choice Modeling and Transportation and review on an ad hoc basis for numerous journal in Transportation, Energy, Housing, and Geography.
